Tracee Ellis Ross in Essence

I've always admired Tracee Ellis Ross' fashion sense. She's one of the few celebrities who isn't a slave to the latest trends and really knows how to mix vintage pieces with high and low fashion. I've been completely envious of her wardrobe ever since I read several years ago that she still has many of the outrageous outfits her mother designed for the movie Mahogany. Seriously, I would kill to spend a day rummaging through her closet.

I try not to post too much celebrity related stuff but I had to share these images (that I found on UrbanScanz) because the lady really doesn't get enough credit from the fashionistas and also because after eight seasons, Girlfriends was abruptly canceled by the CW and the network has decided that a proper finale is "too expensive" and will not be produced.

Now, I've been watching the show for years and will admit that the post-Toni seasons have ranged from lackluster to downright painful to watch. I've done more than my share of complaining about it over at Television Without Pity but it was still the only show of its kind on TV and it will be missed. Here's to hoping that something even better is on the horizon for the shows largely Black female audience.

If you don't mind my asking, what's your TWOP handle? I'd like to keep an eye out for your posts. I haven't posted to that site in ages, though I occasionally read the FOL, ROL, ANTM, and True Life topics. My TWOP name was "braincandy", but I doubt if it's still active since, as I stated, I haven't logged in for at least a couple of years.

I never watched Girlfriends, BTW, though a lot of people seem to have loved the show. My TV viewing is pretty much limited to VH-1's "Celebreality" shows and the marathons of ANTM's previous seasons.

Tracey is fierce. I think her outfits could rival "Miss Carrie Bradshaw." But for whatever reason, she never got too much shine. Love this post and your blog!!

did the cast of girlfriends ever get an essence cover?

yeah
pat fields is more of a label whore than a stylist which is what miss tracey truly is.

I might be mistaken but I don't recall ever seeing the cast on a cover. I do remember them featured in a spread inside the magazine once.

First of all I agree that Tracee Ellis Ross looks divine on the cover of Essence. It looks like old Essence has got into the 21st century. I also think it is appalling the way Girlfriends was cencelled with so much as a finale. Disgraceful for such a great show. You don't rate the shows that were post Toni?!! I find Toni annoying and think the show is much funnier without her.

Tracee Ellis Ross does not get the credit that she deserves. She is so fashionable and I love seeing what she will come up with next. I loved Girlfriedns and am still getting over the loss of the show.

LPD - I post under the name Marla Singer though I'm not on that site as much as I used to be. There is also another poster with the same name on the site (all lowercase IIRC.)

I agree Girlfriends was not the same without Toni. Tracee Ellis Ross does have a great sense of style and does not get credit for being the fashionista that she is. Meanwhile Lauren Conrad and her overdone cotton dresses are everywhere.
