Liya Kebede to becomes J. Crew "exclusive"

The Ethiopian model and J. Crew creative directory Jenna Lyons have struck up a partnership that will see Kebede become the first model to be the exclusive face of a J. Crew catalog. The deal also allows J. Crew to carry a selection of Kebede's handmade children's clothing line, Lemlem (which is made in Ethiopia.) The line and the catalog will be available in April.

Great deal for Liya and her homemade label, but the second picture where she's in the pink dress concerns me. I feel as though they could've added other children of color.

^^^ Hahah, but don't you see? The little biracial/very light skinned girl hugging her is supposed to keep you pacified! (sarcasm)

Really though, it's great for Liya but are they really that afraid to put anyone darker than tan? I'm sure it's to show loyalty to the Obama's for their patronage but to make sure they don't stray too much from their target audience. (i.e. their "target" audience doesn't feel threatened by the change).
A kinda like, "See! We add black people! Look!" But where they are light enough keep the white people buying their products happy and to (supposedly) get more black people buying their things.

I think it's a nice look for her and J. Crew. Yes, the Obama influence. You know what? I'll take it. I want to see it spread all over then no turning back. Yes, spread the love with the children. Please.

I'm sold. I've never bought anything from J. Crew. Now, I'm going to seriously consider it.
