POP Magazine Fall/Winter 2008 Covers

The newest issue of POP Magazine looks like it's taking cues from last month's wildly successful issue of Italian Vogue. The Fall/Winter issue will feature six cover models including Jourdan Dunn, Oluchi, and of course Naomi Campbell.

I already like these cover images much better than the Vogue ones! Less safe? Also, your entry about the Vogue Italia issue pretty much nailed my feelings too.

I like Naomi, but I wish she'd go away and let someone else be the "go-to" Black model for a while.

I noticed some of the fall issues that are on newsstands are featuring women of color. Eva Mendes for Marie Claire and Tyra Banks for Harper's Bazaar. It is clear that these mags (icluding Pop) are taking cues from Italian Vogue, but the cynic in me wonders if they are doing so because they see the value and talent in having diverse looking women on their pages, or if they just hope that they will have a repeat of Italian Vogues commercial success.

@slanderous

Yes, I think they are trying to repeat the success of VI. I'm still looking forward to seeing the photos inside.

@lpd

There has been an overload of Naomi this year. It wouldn't bother me much if magazines and designers were using other black models too instead of just Naomi all the time but I have to admit that she's still got it. It also nice to see Oluchi, she doesn't appear in magazines as much lately.

Italia vogue started a trend. I agree with slanderous. A lot of Italia Vogue covers are "out there" but I guess the editors tried to play it safe because of what people who say.

I think I may colect all three covers.
Bridgette, do you know which models are on the other three covers.
BTW, I will write my review soon. I am way to lazy.

Naomi's cover reminds me of Tameko Frazer, Maybeline model.

Brigitte, Oluchi is married to the Luca Luca designer. They had a baby recently and she now runs a modeling agency. I think she has semiretired.

sorry for the multiple posts.

I am kind of sick of Naomi too. As much as I love her figure, I am going to need her to put some clothes on.

@anon 1:24- If BW can make more record breaking sales at the news stands,I think we will see more blk women on the cover. Excluding American Vogue or course.

Rihanna,Beyonce,Eve, and Queen Latifah have had a number of covers.All have been on the cover of allure.
